INDIA GLADWOOD
Australian Secrets
Exhibition
India's Gladwood's exhibition, Australian Secrets (2019) looks towards nature for inspiration. Her works on paper feature Australian flowering gums where she isolates singular branches and/or leaves. Gladwood's use of tones creates a striking contrast against the white background allowing the viewer to appreciate and reflect on natures splendour. Through this series, Gladwood aims to raise awareness and encourage the conservation of our environment.

My work reflects the gentle side of the Australian landscape. We have raging oceans, sweeping desolate plains, and violent wildfires, though we often dismiss our gorgeous wild towering trees and vibrant flowering gum blossoms. We have beautiful native plants here in Australia and it is our job to protect them and conserve our local environment this will result in our native plant species to thrive.
The watercolour paints retain a mind of their own, mixing unique colours, similar to our natural surroundings. The ink layer is time-consuming and calming, giving my pieces the subtle fine features which our native flora possesses. I pay tribute to the natural world, reminding us to slow down and reconnect.
